Did we Buc up?

It’s exciting. Think about it. Everyone lines up outside the stadium wearing their ETSU hoodies.
The air is a bit brisk, but it’s OK because you’ll be watching ETSU football. Everyone will be screaming, “Let’s get Buc-ed up!”
Our football team will probably lose the first few years, but that’s OK, too, because every new program starts out that way.
Just look at UT — they restart their program almost every year.
But is all this really worth the extra $250 a year? I admit this fee increase was not as bad as I originally feared when I first heard football rumors floating about, but the fee still sucks and that is my main problem with the whole ordeal.
Over the years I’ve been here I’ve asked my friends what attracted them to ETSU.
A few have said soccer, nursing or bluegrass, but the rest say price. ETSU is the cheapest non-community college this side of Tennessee.
Other than price though, it’s nothing too special.
Don’t get me wrong, I love it here.
We have a beautiful squirrel-ridden campus and a nice, fun atmosphere.
That’s not enough to attract me here from across the state though. A Tennessee Board of Regents school is a Tennessee Board of Regents school.
A football program won’t make us any more special.
As long as the price doesn’t rise anymore, I think even those who oppose the change will enjoy our new pastime though. It’s kind of like when Facebook changes; everyone hates it at first, but after a while can’t imagine it any other way.
What I can imagine, though, is the Ramen noodles I’ll be eating next year after taking a $250 hit to my budget. It’s impressive the SGA was able get that high of an increase approved.
The SGA recently passed legislation which the library fought tooth and nail for to get a $10 fee increase to open its doors for more hours, and that was a change that most of the students I’ve talked with already wanted.
So is football worth the money? I guess time will tell if we Buc-ed up or not.
