A harsh reality, but reality TV a guilty pleasure

I never liked reality TV shows. But then again, who does?
Or more accurately, who admits that they do? I’ll admit I’ve been one of those stuck-up people who absolutely hates MTV and the brain-melting reality shows that are in every time slot that needs to be filled.
“Kim Kardashian’s going to the beach again? Let’s make a 30-minute episode out of this!”
I’d shake my head at the people who actually like shows like that.
In truth, all TV is pretty much crap. It just depends on which crap you happen to like more.
I couldn’t stand reality TV until I walked into my dorm one day after class to find my roommate watching something on TV.
“My friends tell me that this is an addictive show, so I just want to see what all the fuss is about,” she said.
I had nothing to do for a while, so I decided to watch it with her.
It was a reality show on the Oxygen network called, “Bad Girls Club.” Basically, it’s about a group of six or seven 20-somethings living together in one house.
All these women do is party, drink and fight with each other. Of course, occasionally, they twerk.
It’s stupid. It is a very, very stupid show, but I ended up glued to my chair, ignoring the world around me for the three-hour marathon of “Bad Girls Club.”
After watching this marathon, it ingrained itself into my mind, and I would find myself periodically thinking about the show as the week progressed.
I asked my roommate when next episode would be on.
“I believe it’s on at 8 p.m. on Tuesdays.” Tuesday night?
My last class ends at 6:30 p.m. so I can grab some dinner, go back to the dorm and watch another episode of “Bad Girls Club.”
I never thought I’d say this, but I am a fan of this show. The drama and the tension these women have with each other — I just want someone to hit somebody already!
It’s been a few episodes. My friends from home would shake their heads.
Only two weeks ago, I would still be the nose-up-in-the-air, I-don’t-watch-reality-TV type, but I can’t say that anymore.
I’m already wondering if next week’s episode will finally have a catfight, and if there will be a new girl joining the house if there is.
But don’t judge, as I once did, because doesn’t everyone have a guilty pleasure?
