The East Tennessee State men's and women's track and field teams are set to host the 34th Annual Niswonger Invitational this weekend.

As in the past, this year's meet will feature some of the world's top collegiate and professional athletes. Competition is slated to begin with the preliminary heats of the running events Friday at 10 a.m.

Over 40 men's and women's teams are expected to make their way into Johnson City for the two-day event, which will be held at Dave Walker Track, inside the Mountain State Health Alliance Athletics Center.

Both Buccaneer teams are coming off strong showings from last week's Captain's Invitational at Christopher Newport University in NewportNews, Va.

The men's team was paced by freshman K'Vonte Scott.

Scott picked up a first-place finish in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.77. He also had second-place finishes in five other events — 60 yard dash (7.29), high jump (6-2/1.88m), long jump (21-6/ 6.55m), pole vault (13-5.25/4.10m), 1000 (2:56.69)

En route to the second-place finish, Scott broke the facility record and school record, which was previously held by former ETSU great Nic Chernikow (4820).

Freshman Katerina Vodova won her first collegiate competition last Friday as she captured the long jump crown with a mark of 18 feet, 3.25 inches (5.58m).

Vodova will have a busy weekend on tap. She will compete in a five events including the 60-meter dash, high jump, long jump, shot put and 1,600-meter relay.
