Track, field wraps up competition in Radford

On April 27, 2014

The ETSU track & field program built on some of the successes experienced Friday in rain-shortened action with a very productive Saturday to close out a solid stay at the Highlander Invitational inside Cupp Stadium on the Radford University campus.
After inclement weather in the Radford area limited Friday's competition to only four of the seven scheduled events being completed, the Bucs picked up where they left off with strong performances in a variety of events on Saturday.
On the women's side, the Blue & Gold tallied a number of solid showings including a pair of top-two finishes. In the pole vault, Lindsey Kessler turned in a 3.36 meters mark which was good for runner-up.
Nicole Alexander did even better in the 400 meter hurdles by taking the top spot with a 1:04.04 time. In addition, in distance events, Carolyn Hinch raced to an eighth-place finish in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:20.70, while in the 1500 meter run, Lisa Pallotta came in ninth overall with a 4:51.81 time.
For the men, ETSU was a fixture among the top five in many events including six top-three finishes. The Bucs dominated the winners circle in the 400 meter hurdles with Mike Williams taking the top spot with a time of 54.01, while Sam Barton followed in third overall with a 56.44 time.
In the triple jump, Stephond Allmond carried the momentum over from Friday with a runner-up leap of 13.20 meters, while in the 4x400 meter relay, the team of Jonathan Foote, Matt Moore, Barton and Ryan Jones took second with a time of 3:26.94.
Additionally, Nathan Rivera rounded out the top three in the high jump with a mark of 1.93 meters, while Thomas Miller, too, placed third in the 1500 meter run with a 3:55.84 time.
"We had some positive results today with several top-three finishes and quite a few personal bests," said ETSU Director of Track & Field George Watts.
We have to get some people healthy over the next three weeks as we close in on the conference championships.
I am pleased with how hard the majority of the team is working and look forward to seeing how they respond over the next month."
The Bucs will be back in action next weekend with an appearance in the Tennessee Challenge in Knoxville on Saturday.
