Funding process announced for student allocations

The funding process for major student organizations and university departments was recently announced by the Student Activities Allocations Committee.
Approximately $400,000 will be allocated to fund student activities during the upcoming 2013-2014 academic year. To be eligible to receive funds from the SAAC an organization or department must provide significant benefits to the entire student body. Groups receiving SAAC funding are not eligible for Student Government Association BUC funds (previously 606 funds) except in special circumstances when there are “unforeseeable campus opportunities or emergencies.”
Applications are now available. To apply for SAAC funds, a representative of the organization or department should go online at http://www.etsu.edu/students/currentstudents/forms.aspx to complete an application. A budget outlining financial needs for the coming year must accompany the application. Please save the document in your files and email as an attachment to the Office of Student Affairs at email@example.com by 4:30 p.m. on March 18. You will receive a confirmation email within two working days of receipt. If you have not received confirmation within that time please contact the Office of Student Affairs at 423-439-6129.
“Everybody gets an opportunity to justify their request in person before the committee, said Joe Sherlin, SAAC Chairman, “Then the committee makes its decision.” A budget preparation workshop is scheduled for 3 p.m. Feb. 13 in the East Tennessee Room, located on the third level of the D.P. Culp University Center. The workshop is open to all organizations and should answer questions concerning the completion of the budget and application, according to Sherlin.
The committee is made up of ETSU faculty and students.
Final recommendations are sent to ETSU President Brian Noland for his approval. Once the final allocation is complete, the money is placed into an account, but is not available until the next fiscal year beginning in July, said Sherlin.
