East Tennessee State University student organization Silent Bucs is celebrating Deaf Awareness Week beginning today. All events are free and open to the public.
Events include a bake sale and T-shirt sale from 11:30-3 today and Wednesday in the area between the D.P. Culp University Center and the Amphitheatre. Silent Bucs will disseminate information about deafness and raise funds for their organization.
Tomorrow the Amphitheatre will be the setting for an exploration of deaf culture and history through speakers and skits from 11:30-2. The presentations will be both voiced and signed to accommodate hearing and deaf members of the audience.
On Friday there will be a Deaf Awareness Week Culmination Courtyard Celebration from 1:30-4:30 in the courtyard at the Wayne G. Basler Center for Physical Activity, with old-fashioned games and fellowship.
