After pulling the game to within a single possession, sophomore center Tiana Burley handed USC Upstate two easy points and control of the ball with under 10 seconds remaining.

Burley was called for a flagrant-2 after the Bucs pulled the game to within a single possession.

Burley was whistled and ejected for a punch thrown in direction of a USC Upstate player Brittany Starling that sent her crumbling towards the floor.

ETSU was trailing 58-54 after the basket and before Burley threw the punch, after the resulting free throws the Spartans led 60-54 with just nine seconds remaining in regulation.

Burley’s ejection not only helped seal the win for USC Upstate, but will have lingering effects on the Bucs program and year, a mandatory one-game suspension following any flagrant-2 foul will follow ETSU and Burley into the Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament that start Wednesday.
