With the thousands of students roaming the campus of ETSU it would be easy to overlook Brittany Melton. Like many women on campus, she is a bright, pretty 19- year-old sophomore rushing from class to class. She has chestnut hair, perfectly manicured nails and a deep and abiding love for expensive handbags.
"Being a Big Sister has been one of the most rewarding experiences I have taken part in," ETSU student Tyla Short said. A volunteer mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of East Tennessee since January 2006, Short has balanced the demands of college and work with volunteering, which she said has helped her achieve a wealth of knowledge.
"Differences in Ways of Thinking in the Middle East from the West" is the topic of a free public lecture by guest professor Dr. Graham Leonard at East Tennessee State University next Thursday (Feb. 19) at 7 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center's Martha Street Culp Auditorium.
