Sky-high 3-point shooting leads Stetson past Bucs

With 11.2 seconds remaining in Monday night's game, and ETSU trailing Stetson by one point, ETSU senior guard Courtney Pigram received the inbound pass and headed up the court. With the crowd of 3,074 cheering him on, Pigram stared down his defender, made a juke move, found some open space and launched his shot .

One of the most common activities for avid football fans to engage in is picking games. Although we can be naughty about it and put money on our picks, for the most part we just enjoy the bragging rights that ensue with being right. For seven years now, I've engaged in an NFL "picking ring" with five of my oldest friends, simply for the chance to claim that I know more about football than they do.

Brooks Gym to play host to Valentine's Day boxing

Hugs and kisses will be replaced by hooks and jabs this Valentine's Day at East Tennessee State University, as the ETSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics will team up with the Johnson City Athletic Club to host the St. Valentine's Day Boxing Championships inside Brooks Gym.

Rotich nabs 4th career win at Virginia Tech Invitational

Junior Kenneth Rotich continued to add more titles to his resume on Feb. 7 as the Buccaneer distance runner claimed the title in the 5,000-meter run on the final day of the Virginia Tech Invitational. Rotich, who received Runner of the Year accolades at the 2008 Atlantic Sun Cross Country Championships, has now claimed his fourth indoor track and field title this season and his second in the 5,000 event with a top time of 14 minutes, 43.

ETSU baseball to open with 3-game series vs. Evansville

The ETSU baseball team held its first full-squad practice on Feb. 1 at Cardinal Park as the team prepares for the 2009 season. The Bucs open the season on Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. against Evansville at Cardinal Park in the first game of a three game series. The team has spent the past five weeks going through individual workouts and conditioning.

Lady Bucs introduce 4 new recruits, plan for 2009 season

The ETSU women's soccer team and head coach Heather Henson announced Monday that four women have pledged their commitments to the Bucs' squad next fall. The newest additions to the team are forwards Tori Head and Morgan Thomas and midfielders Charlotte Summerall and Kathy Musacchio.
