The ETSU volleyball team locked up the fifth seed in the Atlantic Sun tournament on Friday night, defeating Campbell in the season finale at Brooks Gym, 3-1 (25-19, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22). "It's great to finish at home with a win," said head coach Lindsey Devine.
The Buccaneers were hoping to break out the South Regional and head to Nationals, but ETSU could not overcome the best of the best in their region as they finished seventh overall at the Lambert Acres Golf Course. All-Atlantic Sun sophomore runner Ben Ronoh (Sotik, Kenya) led the pack of Buccaneer runners across the finish line, completing the rigorous 10K course in 21st with a time of 32:15.
Several defensive stops in the final minutes, a critical steal and two important defensive rebounds by junior guard Mike Smith (Vandalia, Mo.), and a double-double from senior guard Courtney Pigram (Memphis) led the ETSU men's basketball team to a 65-62 win over Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville in the second round of the Charleston Classic Saturday afternoon inside the Carolina First Arena.
The Buc paintball team first found their success in the tournament played in Beckley, W. Va., placing first out of 11 collegiate teams. In the second tournament played in Columbus, Ga. they placed first out of 15. In the latest tournament they have placed first again amongst 16 other collegiate teams, running undefeated in the first semester of the tournament, giving them a total of 300 for the season.
Freshman Gwen Washington (Manassas, Va.) scored a game-high 21 points and junior Siarre Evans (Griffin, Ga.) notched her 16th career double-double, but it was still not enough to overcome Evansville, as the Purple Aces downed the Lady Bucs in their season-opener, 83-73, Saturday evening inside Roberts Stadium.
