Student artwork and a fashion show by hip-hop fashion designer Demetrius Walker are highlights of African American Arts Week, Feb. 18-22. The Black Affairs Association has developed this special event to highlight the talents and abilities of all students and to heighten awareness of Black History Month.
Tennessee Board of Regents Chancellor Dr. Charles Manning bestowed the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Philanthropy on a Jonesborough woman who spreads "ETSU PRIDE" around the country in a unique way. Manning presented the Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Philanthropy to Janette "Janey" Campbell Diehl, who "has truly led a distinguished life by dedicating her efforts to helping others, particularly students at East Tennessee State University.
The ETSU Foundation and ETSU recognized two regional leaders - Richard "Dick" Green and Tim P. Jones - with the prestigious Margin of Excellence Award during the Distinguished President's Trust annual dinner on Feb. 15. The Margin of Excellence Award was established in 2002 to acknowledge individuals who "go above and beyond the call of duty" in supporting the mission of ETSU and the Foundation.
"The Impact of Indoor Air Pollution on Human Health in the Developing World" will be the topic of a free public lecture at ETSU on Feb. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Ball Hall auditorium. Dr. William Martin, Director of Translational Research for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), will deliver the keynote address which is part of the "Leading Voices in Public Health" Lecture Series in the ETSU College of Public Health.
