Sophomore post Latisha Belcher (Martinsville, Va.) scored a career-high 20 points and grabbed a game-high eight rebounds as the ETSU Lady Buccaneers went on to defeat Stetson, 73-62, Saturday afternoon inside the Edmunds Center. In total, the Lady Buccaneer post players scored 57 points, guiding ETSU to its school record eighth straight conference victory.
In ETSU's losses this season, the Buccaneers have struggled at long stretches to produce scoring opportunities. That same issue once again cost the Bucs Sunday. Able to score just one field goal in the final 6:08 of Sunday's game at Stetson, the Buccaneers watched as the Hatters outscored them 16-3 down the stretch to pull off an upset win and temporarily derail ETSU's regular season title hopes 68-56 in Atlantic Sun Conference action at the Edmunds Center.
The ETSU track and field team made the short one-day trip over to Boone, and competed in the ASU Limited Open Friday afternoon inside the George Holmes Convocation Center. The Buccaneer men's team highlighted the day in many events; especially in the mile run, throws, and high jump.
Junior Jessie Hackworth's (Clinton, Tenn.) grand slam in the top of the seventh lifted the ETSU softball team to a 7-0 victory over Furman in game one; however, the Lady Paladins spoiled the Lady Buccaneers' chances of pulling off a sweep for the second straight season as they rallied past ETSU, 5-3, in the nightcap Saturday afternoon at Pepsi Stadium.
