14 Buccaneers bring home titles from Furman Invitational

The ETSU track and field team had an outstanding day at the Furman Invitational Saturday as 14 different Buccaneer athletes claimed titles in their respective events, and collected 18 titles overall. The men brought home 11 titles and the women came away with seven.

After tallying 23 runs on 22 hits on Friday, the ETSU softball team improved those numbers by recording 25 runs on 25 hits in a critical Atlantic Sun sweep over Lipscomb Saturday afternoon. The Bucs took game one, 12-0, as seniors Stephanie Gaynord and Allison Burnette each recorded a home run on Senior Day, and ETSU won the nightcap, 13-1, as they pushed runs across the plate in all four innings.

Freshman Danny Petro capped an improbable game one rally with a bases-loaded, 10th-inning single, propelling the Bucs to a 7-6 victory, and senior Caleb Glafenhein turned in his third consecutive complete game effort in the nightcap, holding the Owls to two runs on 10 hits as ETSU completed the weekend sweep, 5-2.

In their third year in the Atlantic Sun Conference, the Buccaneers look to improve on their conference record while adding to their non-conference slate of teams.
