Philosophy Club sponsors forum on democracy

The Philosophy Club held a forum for students and faculty to discuss democracy. The participants were Dr. Joe Corso, from the political science department, Dr. Leslie MacAvoy, and Paul Tudico philosophy department, and a current student Ashish Javer. The forum was also sponsored by Concerned East Tennessee Citizens.

Election elicits record turnout

More ETSU students voted in this year's student body election than ever before. The results from the April 10-11 elections have reinstated SGA President Josh Shearin and appointed his running mates, Stephen Linebarger and Ashley Hood as vice president and secretary/treasurer, respectively.

Summit honors distinguished student leaders, organizations

The fifth annual Summit awards were held Tuesday night, April 10, at the Centre at Millennium Park. The Summit is a celebration of distinguished student leaders and campus programs. Phillip Carney, Jessica Broyles, Amber Hoskins and Andrew Rose were some of the first to receive honors at the awards ceremony receiving the Unsung Hero Award, which is given to students not holding major leadership positions, are dedicated to serving the university and go above and beyond the call of duty.

Redistribution of scholarships funds for minority students in question

During a time when segregation plagued the county, a program intending to expand educational opportunities for African-American students in Tennessee's higher education system began. After 38 years, Governor Phil Bredesen announced the end of this settlement in September 2006, leaving the redistribution of the scholarship uncertain.

Voting privacy issues resolved

Students voting off campus who logged on to ETSU's home page early Tuesday morning to vote in the SGA elections had no idea that they were potentially putting their personal information at risk. The link provided on ETSU's home page lacked the proper security syntax that would have encrypted student Goldlink IDs and passwords.

Voters share views

A divided student body voted down a resolution that would have increased student fees and brought back ETSU's football program. Had it been approved, students would have began paying an additional $50 per semester in athletic fees starting in fall 2007, and an additional $50 per semester starting in 2009.

A celebration of diversity

ETSU held a Unity Fest yesterday to celebrate cultural diversity. The event, held in Borchuck Plaza, was sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Black Affairs Association, and SGA Buc Fund. Senior John Suits was happy to see the festival on campus.
