A somber silence settled outside of Sherrod Library on Monday morning as students walking to classes watched 68 pairs of boots being placed on the cold concrete. Each pair represented a soldier from Tennessee who has been killed since the Iraq War began in 2003.

East Tennessee State University's Department of Foreign Languages in the College of Arts and Sciences will hold the 7th annual Hispanic Student Day on Wednesday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center. The day, which will provide an orientation to college life, is intended for any middle or high school student of Hispanic heritage.
Congress may soon pass a bill to lower interest rates on student loans, but students and representatives are split on the issue. Some believe it would benefit more students to use the funds to increase number and size of Pell Grants awarded to current students instead of giving college graduates a break.

Sponsored by the History Society, the panel discussion will offer individuals an opportunity to "say what you think" about various candidates, said Dr.
