Spring Break
The Kingsport Symphony Orchestra, together with guest artists Celtic Air, performed a selection of Scottish music Saturday night at the Toy F. Reid Employee Center. Not wanting to go to the symphony alone, I found a musical friend who was more than willing to go along.
They set up camp from New York to Nashville. They sang in the streets from Atlanta to Los Angeles. They laughed, cried, prayed and practiced but nothing could prepare them for what they were about to experience. On Jan. 21, during prime-time television, America watched thousands of hopefuls from across the nation battle for spots in the semifinal round of the second season of Fox's American Idol.
Slocumb Galleries is exhibiting paintings and fiber art through Jan. 29, with a two-day conference and panel discussion to be held on Jan. 28 and 29. Paintings arranged in small conversation groups make up the show, "More Than I Can Say," by Janet Sorenson, professor of art at Skidmore College.
